Subject: Official request for information by Men's Aid

Dear Mr Mortimer
Please find below the information you have requested.

Surrey Women's Aid
Woking Borough Council contributes to funding to support an outreach service for those suffering domestic abuse in the borough. As a minimum the outreach service must operate a free, confidential, impartial and independent service, open to all regardless of age, race, gender, sexuality, religion, mental and physical health. Where the provider is not able to meet the particular needs of a service user, they will make every effort to ensure that the service user is placed in contact with another provider, where such a service exists with due regard to the safety of staff and users. They must provide specialist, direct, practical advice and support to victims about their options, including advice on entitlement to legal services, housing and other benefits, injunctions and other civil and criminal proceedings, safety planning, seeking medical treatment etc, so that they can make informed decisions about their future.

Surrey Women's Aid also provide a Surrey wide 24 hour helpline for anyone suffering domestic abuse, regardless of gender.

06/07 £15,375 grant. Year 2 of a 3 year funding agreement, based on £15,000 in the initial year and a percentage increase for inflation for the following two years, plus in-kind support in the form of accommodation valued at £10,500 per year.

Rape & Sexual Abuse Support Centre
This centre may deal with some cases of domestic abuse for either gender.
06/07 £500.00 grant. They received the same amount in 05/06 but nothing the previous year. There is no commitment to further funding but they may apply in future years.

North West Surrey Victim Support
As part of its remit, Victim Support provides help and support to victims of domestic abuse for either gender. This local victim support scheme is not currently receiving any grant from Woking Borough Council but they do have in-kind support in the form of accommodation valued at £5,200 per year.

Surrey Law Centre
The Surrey Law Centre, an initiative of the Woking Community Legal Services Partnership, provides specialist support to frontline advice agencies in Surrey. The Centre provides a Surrey-wide service addressing the difficulties of those in the community who are most vulnerable and who are poorly served by existing provision in respect of information, advice and legal help in the field of community care. As part of its work, they provide legal support, by way of injunctions, exclusions orders and housing matters etc, for some men and women suffering domestic abuse.

Woking Borough Council provides some funding assistance as part of a county wide funding arrangement supported by the other local districts and boroughs and the county council.

06/07 £10,000 grant. Year 2 of a 3 year funding agreement, plus in-kind support in the form of accommodation valued at £13,500 per year.

I hope this information helps.
