Dear Mr Mortimer

Wiltshire County Council does not hold any information in relation to your request about help available for men suffering domestic abuse in this area. However the following information may be of use to you.

At present the Supporting People budget is used to fund four separate schemes across the County that cater for people escaping domestic violence. All of the schemes are female only and do not accept males (even teenage male dependants).

However, we plan to begin work on a strategic review of services within the next six months and seek to establish the needs of males within Wiltshire and to address these appropriately.

Help & support for women:

The Supporting People Partnership funds four organisations that provide refuges for females escaping domestic violence:

Knightstone Housing Association - £80,710 pa
Salisbury Women’s Refuge - £129,397 pa
Sarsen Housing Association - £30,962 pa
Westlea Housing Association - £55,873 pa

These figures are for the current financial year 2006/07

As part of our ‘generic floating support’ service we also fund floating support for victims of domestic violence. This service is provided by a local consortium called ‘Community 4’ who for a full financial year would receive £810k, of which we would expect at least £80k to be for work with victims and perpetrators of domestic violence.

The Children and Families section of the Department for Children and Education provide grant aid of £3,280 to SPLITZ who provide practical help and advice to families including adults with experience of domestic violence (men and women). Children and Families provide £15,000 grant aid to the Domestic Violence Intervention Partnership (DVIP).

Yours sincerely
