Dear Mr Mortimer,

I can confirm that there are no refuges available to men suffering domestic abuse within the district - the only refuge is a women and children only. Other housing / accommodation can be made available however if a man is made homeless as a result of abuse through the district Open Door homelessness service.

In terms of support services - there are no specialist services currently available, although the new Wakefield District Integrated Domestic abuse service will be launched in the autumn of 2006, which will offer a one stop approach to support and interventions to those experiencing domestic abuse. The service will be fully inclusive - for women experiencing violence from men, men from their female partners and those within same sex relationships.

Thank you for your enquiry.
