Hi David
Further to your
official request for information under the freedom of information
act regarding help and support groups that are funded by Torbay Council
for male and female victims of domestic violence, please see our response
below.
Safer Communities
Torbay, which is a partnership between Torbay Council, Torbay Care
Trust, Devon & Cornwall Probation, Devon & Cornwall Constabulary
and Devon Fire Brigade for the area of Torbay, is funding South Devon
Women’s Aid for this financial year (April 2006 to March 2007).
South Devon Women’s Aid provides advice and support through
helplines, support groups, counseling and face to face sessions for
female victims of domestic abuse who are living in Torbay, South Hams,
Teignbridge and West Devon. Safer Communities Torbay is only providing
funding for the Torbay element of this service, this equates to £16,500
for this financial year. The funding supplied to Safer Communities
Torbay to pay for this support comes from the Local Public Service
Agreement pump priming grant.
As far as we are
aware there are no male help and/or support groups in Torbay. But
Torbay Domestic Abuse Forum are setting up a survivors consultation
group to help us develop and improve services in Torbay and this will
also be open to male victims.
I hope this answers
your question.
Kind regards
