Subject: Request for information under the FOIA by Men's Aid

Dear Mr Mortimer,

Thank you for your request for information about support groups that Ribble Valley Borough Council (“RVBC”) funds for victims of domestic violence. Your request was received on 28 June 2006 and has been dealt with under the terms of the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

You asked how many help and support groups RVBC funds directly or indirectly for: (A) male; and (B) female, victims of domestic abuse and their children; and (C) how much each one receives per annum.

The answers are as follows: (A) We do not fund any help and support groups for male victims of domestic abuse. (B) We provide funding to two organisations that provide help and support to domestic abuse victims, namely: The Hyndburn and Ribble Valley Domestic Abuse Forum (“HARVDAF”); and Burnley Women’s Refuge Association. Having spoken to HARVDAF, we understand that their focus is female victims of domestic abuse. (C) In 2005/6 RVBC gave £1180 to the Burnley Women’s Refuge Association (i.e. direct funding). The Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership (“the CDRP”), of which RVBC is a member, received £7,000 from Government Office Northwest, and passed this onto HARVDAF (i.e. indirect funding).

Similarly in 2006/7, RVBC will give £1200 to the Burnley Women’s Refuge Association (i.e. direct funding) and the CDRP will pass the £7,000 it receives from Government Office Northwest onto HARVDAF.

If you have any queries about this email, please feel free to contact me at this email address or by telephone on 01200 414403.

If you are unhappy with the service you have received in relation to your request and wish to make a complaint or request a review of our decision, you should write to Diane Rice, Legal Services Manager, Ribble Valley Borough Council, Council Offices, Church Walk, Clitheroe, Lancashire, BB7 2RA.

If you are not content with the outcome of your complaint, you may apply directly to the Information Commissioner for a decision. Generally, the ICO cannot make a decision unless you have exhausted the complaints procedure provided by Ribble Valley Borough Council. The Information Commissioner can be contacted at: The Information Commissioner’s Office, Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire SK9 5AF.

Yours sincerely,
