Council do not have or fund any domestic violence perpetrator programs,
however a partner agency, Women's Aid, does provide a perpetrator
programme which is funded externally. The only residential scheme
we have is for victims of domestic violence (women's refuge) as opposed
to perpetrators.
The Council's Housing Service
has just launched a Sanctuary Scheme which is available for male and
female victims of domestic violence and is intended to assist adults
of domestic violence feel safer in their home, to assist in the prevention
of repeated domestic violence and to avoid people from being made
homeless.
By way of background, for
the period 01/04/2005 to 31/12/2006, this Council has accepted 149
females as statutory homeless due to fleeing domestic violence from
either a partner or someone associated with them. For the same period,
12 male clients were accepted as statutory homeless. Of the 12, 1
was fleeing a same sex relationship, 6 were fleeing domestic violence
from partners (1 of which had fled twice) and 4 were fleeing from
parents.

I have now received
the information from the Director of Finance.
You asked:
how many help and support groups you fund directly or indirectly for
(A) male
I can confirm that we do not fund any support groups for male victims
of domestic violence
(B) female victims of domestic violence and their children
I can confirm that we fund directly or indirectly 5 support groups
for female victims of rape, sexual abuse and domestic violence, including
a helpline and counselling service and a refuge (for which the majority
of our funding goes to support).
(C) how much each one receives pa.

Should you have
any queries about this matter please don’t hesitate to contact
me. Additionally, our Authority is in the process of establishing
a Domestic Violence Strategy and if you would like to participate
in the consultation process, please contact the lead officer Mark
Gray on 01642 771739.
