Dear Mr. Wiffen,
Domestic violence work in the Borough (both responsive and proactive)
is undertaken by our Domestic Violence Forum, a voluntary organisation
which reports to the Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership. Its
response to persons who complain about domestic violence, has a therapeutic
style which is aimed at the individual needs and difficulties of the
complainant. No distinction is made in the service offered to the
two genders and there are on programs specifically for either. The
Forum's paid Listening Ear Counsellor is male; his two volunteer assistants
are female.
The Council provides a sum of money from its annual revenue budget,
towards the cost of employing the Listening Ear Counsellor and the
provision of some admin. support. This sum is approved by the CDRP
and the Council's Policy Committee. In 2006-7, it was £10,800.
I hope this information is helpful and sufficient.

David,
The only organisation we
fund is our local Domestic Violence Forum. We give them an annual
grant (currently £9000) to employ a Listening Ear Counsellor
and admin support. The work done by these people is to aid all domestic
violence victims. I know from discussions with the Forum's Chairwoman
that her organisation recognises the realities of men becoming victims
and it is a point she reiterates at times when she reports to us.
