Please find attached a
word document containing 3 tables, detailing the number of male and
female victims of domestic violence for each of the 6 Basic Command
Units in Merseyside. Please note that Merseyside Police Basic Command
Units have borders which are contiguous with Local Authority boundaries
(except Liverpool North and South, which cover the Liverpool City
Council area). Local Authority areas are obviously of different socio-economic
groupings and different population size and density, details of which
can be found on the relevant Local Authority websites or The Office
of National Statistics website. You will notice that the first set
of figures does not cover a full financial year. The figures relate
to the period 1st January 2004 'til 31st March 2004, this is due to
changes in recording systems. Please be aware that domestic violence
towards 'males' could be committed by males or females and likewise
domestic violence towards 'females' could be committed by males or
females. There is no differentiation in the figures provided. Merseyside
Police follows the Association Of Chief Officers Of Police definition
of domestic violence, which is: any incident of threatening behaviour,
violence, or abuse (psychological, physical, sexual, financial or
emotional) between adults who are or have been intimate partners or
family members, regardless of gender.
'Unknown' has been used
where the 'gender' of a domestic violence victim has not been specifically
recorded.

Yours sincerely

Dear David,
Further to your
request on the 27th June, I am able to provide you with the following
information from Community Safety. In 2005/2006 we funded 3 projects
directly in relation to support services for domestic violence, 2
were support services for female victims of domestic violence and
their children and 1 was for male victims of domestic violence and
their children. The 2 support services for female victims received
£4,000 each and the support service for male victims £3,500.
If you require
any further information please do not hesitate to contact me.
Yours sincerely,
