Dear Dave,
Kent is obviously
a big place with a lot of partnership working going on. Kent County
Council itself does not specifically fund domestic violence help and
support groups. That said they do have some of their staff, primarily
social workers, who are involved in facilitating the support groups
you are referring to - if you wanted to know specific numbers of staff
involved in this then you would need to address your request specifically
to the Social Services District Managers in Kent (details of local
offices can be found on Kent website www.kent.gov.uk)
but I would hazard a guess from my own knowledge that it would be
no more than 8/10 at most, across the whole county. However I do know
that a district area (Thanet) has sought funding from county council
members (who have small amount of funds available to spend on projects
in their wards) to set up a support group for female victims of domestic
violence.
Generally domestic
violence services in the area are either funded from voluntary sources
or by District Councils (n.b. Medway Council is a unitary authority)
or other statutory partners.
I would suggest
that your enquiry would need to be sent to the local councils directly,
and it is the community safety teams in the areas that have been the
ones who have put money into support groups, where this has taken
place. As far as I am aware where support groups are available these
are for female victims of domestic abuse and there are some children's
groups running in some areas of Kent as well.
The District Councils
in Kent are as follows:
Ashford Council
Canterbury Council
Dartford Council
Dover Council
Gravesham Council
Maidstone Council
Sevenoaks Council
Shepway Council
Swale Council
Thanet Council
Tonbridge and Malling Council
Tunbridge Wells Council
As mentioned above
Medway Council is separate from Kent County Council as it is a unitary
authority.
If your purpose
is to try to map services available for men generally rather than
just those that are being funded by local authorities, then you could
consider contacting Sure Starts, where they operate in Kent/Medway
(www.surestart.gov.uk)
as they run a lot of community groups as does the Family Welfare Association
(www.fwa.org.uk).
I hope above gives
you some useful information on where to go next to search out the
information you are seeking.
