Dear Mr. Mortimer
Our Community
Safety Team's Domestic Violence Co-ordinator has recently returned
from annual leave and has provided the following additional information:
Further to the
information provided, the Community Safety Team has provided £10,000
to fund a Victim Support DV Support Group for victims of domestic
violence. This allows them to meet once a week with a trained facilitator
to share experiences, discuss specific topics etc. This includes a
pot of money for woman to carry out training and take part in activities
and trips.
The CST and Metropolitan
Police have provided £60,000 to Woman's Trust to provide an
Advocacy Service for the borough. This will be increased to £80,000
next year (providing success of the service).
Last financial
year we funded the development of the DV Directory and an accompanying
leaflet and this year are paying for its maintenance and re-printing.
£3,000 has
been allocated for DV awareness in schools project which is a joint
project with Education who will also contribute to the cost.
Housing needs
and a 'target hardening' project secure the homes of DV victims, enabling
the remain in their homes and feel safe.
As for services
specifically for male victims, there are currently none in the borough.
Although they can use some local services, this is not often done.
Unfortunately direction to one of the national DV services for men
is usually the case.
Yours sincerely

Dear Mr. Mortimer
You asked: “How
many help and support groups you fund directly or indirectly for (A)
male and (B) female victims of domestic violence and their children
and (C) how much each one receives pa.”
Response
In terms of Family and Children's Services, we currently fund three
organisations which respond to domestic violence issues. Our focus
is safeguarding and supporting children and providing assistance with
parenting issues which follow from domestic violence.
1. Women's Trust:
£20,732 - support for mothers in RBKC facing domestic violence
2. Eaves Housing for Women: £11,557 provision of support for
children exposed to domestic violence.
3. Space KC: £10,000 - group work support for children exposed
to domestic violence - referrals accepted from parents of either gender
These services
were commissioned for 2006/07 through a publicly advertised annual
grants process, where local voluntary groups applied for financial
support. No applications were received in this round in respect of
services for men/fathers who had experienced domestic violence. Fathers
experiencing domestic violence who believe that their children's needs
are endangered or compromised can seek assistance from RBKC locality
social work teams.
We also fund West
London Action for Children (WLAFC) (£54,424) which provides
general family support services. WLAFC have offered family support
groups specifically for men/fathers and fathers with experience of
domestic violence would be eligible for this service.
The Borough's
Community Safety Team can confirm that the Crime and Disorder Reduction
Partnership (CDRP) is funding a DV support Group service managed by
Victim Support (£10,000) and Women's Trust have been funded
to set up an advocacy service to support victims of domestic violence
(£60,000).
Additionally,
we are developing a programme of support for parents which would be
open to fathers with parenting issues as a result of domestic violence
Several publications
are also produced by the authority: Are you Staying Safe (leaflet),
Domestic Violence Directory and Domestic Violence Handbook.
Please advise
if you wish to receive copies and we will forward these to you.
Yours sincerely
Sara Langridge
