Dear Mr Mortimer
Freedom of Information
Request
Thank you for
your e-mail dated 29th June in which you requested certain information
under the Freedom of Information Act.
In response to
the three specific questions you posed, I would advise you as follows;
(a) The Council
does not currently support any help and support groups for male victims
of domestic violence and their children.
(b) The Council
supports one group for female victims of domestic violence and their
children.
(c) The help and
support group for female group victims of domestic violence and their
children makes an annual application for grant assistance to the Council.
This financial year, the Council decided to make no payment to the
group in question for its general operation but an award of £4,740.00
was made to assist with the group's children's caravan project. In
2005/06, the group was awarded £20,000.00 plus £5,650.00
for the children's caravan project and in 2004/05 a grant of £20,000.00
was made to the group for its general operation.
The group is otherwise
funded mainly via Housing Support payments made through the Supporting
People programme which is administered by the Council. The current
Supporting People contract value is £120,000 per annum.
Finally, I am
informed that male victims of domestic abuse have contacted the local
female victim support group for advice and assistance and that although
the group is unable to support them its workers have been giving out
the Men's Aid contact number.
I hope the above
information is helpful to you. If, however, there is any aspect of
this reply that you would like to discuss further please contact me.
Yours sincerely
Brian Purdie
