Subject: FOI request

Dear Sir

Further to your request for information in relation to help and support groups funding and initiatives.

The information I have is that the Safer Hartlepool Partnership receives funding for tackling community safety issues in the town. One of the groups supported by the Partnership is North Tees Women's Aid, who provide help and suport to predominately to female victims and their children, but they will provide outreach support to male victims too. In 2006/7 they will receive just under £6000, but this is not Council funding. You can find information relating to the Safer Hartlepool Partnership on the council website www.hartlepool.gov.uk, which provides contact details and related documents. Our Grants Officer confirms that North Tees Womens Aid do receive funding from the Community Pool, but it specifically for the S.E.A.R.C.H. project (Sexual Abuse and Rape Counselling). Victim Support also receives funding from the Community Pool for their core operation not specifically to support victims of domestic violence. NTWA used to get funding from the Housing Division of our Neighbourhood Services Department, before the Council Housing Stock was transferred to Housing Hartlepool. It is assumed that Housing Hartlepool now provide that funding.

I am informed by our Regeneration and Planning Department, via Economic Development, that there is work with vulnerable people needing employment and skills and can include the groups you refer to. For example, work with lone parents would tend to pick up some people falling into the category and the issue may be identified, though it may be one of a number of causal factors. However, we are unable to quantify this and the basis of intervention is not domestic violence.

I am sorry I cannot be of further assistance, to you. If you are dissatisfied with this response, I enclose a complaint form and the response will be reviewed by a senior officer of the Legal Division at the Council.

Yours faithfully
