The first six
agencies are funded to provide services specifically for women experiencing
domestic violence.
Agencies such
as Advance and Westside will signpost enquiries from male victims
on to the specialist organisations which run services for victims
of domestic violence. Advance operate a support service for women
referred to them via the police and other named agencies. In the period
1 April 2003 - 31 March 2005 Advance received 1145 referrals. Of these
1131 were from women and 14 from men. Heterosexual victims will generally
be signposted to MALE (men's advice line for those in abusive relationships)
and gay men to Broken Rainbow.
DVIP work with male perpetrators of domestic violence.
The Domestic Violence Coordinator coordinates the work of front line
agencies and the statutory sector across the borough. Publicity materials
produced by the borough provide information on services for men as
well as women.
The Domestic Violence Prevention Project in Schools will work with
both boys and girls in schools to encourage healthy relationships.
Yours sincerely
