Subject: Freedom of Information Request

Dear Mr Mortimer

Thank you for your email received at the Council on 27 June 2006 at 17:44 requesting information about the number of groups Gedling Borough Council support directly or indirectly for male and female victims of domestic abuse.

In answer to your request made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 I can advise as follows:

A) Male Victims of Domestic Violence

Gedling Borough Council do not directly fund specific services for men experiencing domestic violence within the Gedling area.

B) Female Victims of Domestic Violence and their Children

Whilst there are no specific services for women experiencing domestic violence based within Gedling there are a number that are accessible within the City of Nottingham as well as areas surrounding the Borough. In 2003/2004 Gedling part funded Women's Aid to provide a Domestic Violence Outreach Worker (with the Gedling Community Safety Partnership and Sure Start). This post has continued and Gedling Borough Council provides funding to Women's Aid Advice Service (WAAC) based in Nottingham City to fund the post of the Domestic Violence Outreach Worker for the Gedling area.

The appointment of this officer follows on from a needs assessment that was undertaken by Gedling Community Safety Partnership working very closely with the South Nottinghamshire Domestic Abuse Strategy Group. Gedling Borough Council and Community Safety Partnership continue to work with the group with the Gedling Borough Council Community Partnerships Manager Chairing the South Nottinghamshire Group where issues are discussed concerning funding and support for local agencies and organisations. The group is made up of statutory and voluntary/community sector representatives.

C) How much each one receives per annum

The Domestic Violence Outreach Worker is employed for 28 hours per week and Gedling Borough Council's contribution to this post is £20K per year from the mainstream budget.

I trust that this response satisfies your request. If you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact, Mrs. Anita Bradley, Senior Solicitor on telephone 0115 901 3896.

Yours sincerely
