Subject: Your Enquiry
Dear
Mr Wiffen,
On
26 October 2006 you sent an e-mail constituting a request under the
Freedom of Information Act asking for the number of male and female
victims of domestic violence that were recorded by each of the police
districts in each of the last 3 full financial years.
Please
see the tables below detailing the figures requested.
2003/2004
124 male victims and 393 female victims in Cheltenham
54 male victims and 181 female victims in Tewkesbury
209 male victims and 668 female victims in Gloucester
78 male victims and 273 female victims in Forest
84 male victims and 249 female victims in Stroud
78 male victims and 172 female victims in Cotswolds
2004/2005
149 male victims and 598 female victims in Cheltenham
83 male victims and 267 female victims in Tewkesbury
218 male victims and 698 female victims in Gloucester
100 male victims and 295 female victims in Forest
118 male victims and 358 female victims in Stroud
75 male victims and 213 female victims in Cotswolds
2005/2006
190 male victims and 580 female victims in Cheltenham
97 male victims and 363 female victims in Tewkesbury
202 male victims and 839 female victims in Gloucester
111 male victims and 296 female victims in Forest
132 male victims and 364 female victims in Stroud
84 male victims and 205 female victims in Cotswolds
There
is no crime class of Domestic Violence, however any crime, such as
criminal damage, assault etc may have resulted from Domestic violence.
These statistics were recovered from crimes recorded as occurring
between the relevant times where a domestic violence maker has been
added. If the same person was the victim of domestic violence on more
than one occasion during the relevant time, each occasion is recorded
separately. There may be cases of domestic violence that have not
been reported, and on which we would obviously not be able to respond,
and there have been reports made to the police relating to domestic
violence, but where no crime could be recorded. For example, Between
4 June 2005 and 19 June 2006 there have been 1921 incidents recorded
in the Cheltenham and Tewkesbury division under the NSIR (National
Standard for Incident Recording) opening code C40 - Domestic (crime).
Approximately 30 percent of these incidents resulted in a recorded
crime.
Before
NSIR came into force in June 2005 a different opening code was used
for recording these types of incidents (Disorder - 32 - Domestic).
Between 1 Jan 2003 and 3 July 2005 there were 4885 incidents recorded
in the Cheltenham and Tewkesbury division with this opening code,
of which approximately 25 percent resulted in a recorded crime.
Yours
sincerely,
Liz
