Subject: Information Request by Men's Aid
Fife Council supports a
range of services for women, men, children and young people with experience
of domestic abuse. As you will be aware victims can have complex support
needs and access services accordingly - in Fife these are most likely
to be:
Fife Constabulary
NHS Fife * GP, A&E
etc
Family Protection Unit
(Domestic Abuse) joint police / social work specialist service for
any adult victims of domestic abuse, soon to include outreach children's
support workers.
Fife Council
Housing Service offers temporary accommodation to any adult victim
of domestic abuse and their dependents
Local Services Network
has responsibility for housing allocation irrespective of gender
Social Work Services respond
to domestic abuse through work with perpetrators and are looking to
set up group work programmes for male perpetrators. Children and families
teams work with the effects of domestic abuse on young people on a
daily basis. Other areas of social work will offer support where domestic
abuse is identified eg adult services & older people * irrespective
of gender
Education Service staff
undertake awareness training re domestic abuse and each school has
an identified domestic abuse co-ordinator who have additional training
including in child protection implications.
Community Services pick
up cases of domestic abuse again on a regular basis * often through
their work with young people
Trading Standards * including
money advice
Voluntary Sector Organisations
As you can see Fife Council
offers support in a wide range of ways and is committed to tackling
domestic abuse by working in partnership with others from the statutory
and voluntary sectors through the Fife Domestic and Sexual Abuse Partnership.
Statutory sector partners include Fife Constabulary, NHS Fife, and
Job Centre Plus.
Fife Council also financially
supports a number of voluntary sector organisations providing a range
of services that will include some individuals who have experienced
domestic abuse eg Victim Support Fife, Citizen's Advice & Rights
Fife. Information is not available to accurately estimate what proportion
of all voluntary organisation's workload is related directly or indirectly
to domestic abuse.
In addition to the above
services Fife Council is committed to the approach adopted by the
Scottish Executive of addressing domestic abuse through provision,
but also prevention and protection.
It is clear that all abuse
wrong and anyone experiencing domestic abuse must be able to access
services (listed above). However, it is recognised that it is primarily
women, children and young people who are the victims and men who perpetrate
such violence. The need for specific services for women, children
and young people is recognised and Fife Council supports three Women's
Aid Groups to provide information, support and refuge. The grants
allocations for 2005/6 are as follows:
Dunfermline Women's Aid
241,436 (6 months)
East Fife Women's Aid 506,470
Kirkcaldy Women's Aid 461,364
