Dear Mr Mortimer
I can confirm
East Dunbartonshire Council provides grant funding to a single support
group for victims of domestic abuse.
East Dunbartonshire's
Women's Aid received £96,786 last financial year towards their
running costs; this figure has increased by £6,000 for this
current financial year. We hold no figures as to the proportion of
this grant that is spent towards providing services to male victims
of domestic abuse. Research shows that the greatest number of those
experiencing domestic abuse are women and therefore East Dunbartonshire's
Woman's Aid provides services targeted at women and their children.
If contacted by male victims of domestic abuse, East Dunbartonshire's
Women's Aid will provide information about legal and housing options.
In terms of East
Dunbartonshire Council's equal treatment of those affected by domestic
abuse the services available through the Council's Homelessness Service
are available to men and woman equally. Male and female victims of
domestic abuse are offered temporary accommodation, support from a
Housing Support Officer and also additional specialist support dependant
on their needs. East Dunbartonshire Council offers a multi-agency
partnership approach in responding to and seeking to prevent domestic
abuse. The Council employs two officers to support this partnership
working.
I trust this satisfies
your request, if you have any further questions please do no hesitate
to contact me.
Yours sincerely,
