Dear Mr Wiffen

I write in connection with your email dated December 24, 2006, which was received by this office on December 27, 2006 requesting the following information: The number of (A) Male (B) Female Perpetrators of Domestic Violence were (C) Arrested and (D) Convicted of each offence last year.

We are unable to provide the arrest data as requested above. The Devon and Cornwall Constabulary custody database does not flag Domestic Violence incidents. We have a database specifically for Domestic Violence arrests, but the sex of the offender is not recorded in it.

The following information is for 1 January 1006 to 31 December 2006.

Domestic Violence incidents
Total: 5345

Domestic Violence crime offenders
Female 551
Male 2637

Domestic Violence crime offenders convicted
Female 79
Male 999

Yours sincerely

There are three Male perpetrator programmes within DCCs area. The bulk of funding for these comes from a Home Office Invest to Save budget and a European Union DAPHNE programme stream of funding. This is supplemented by contribution from the adva (against domestic violence and abuse partnership) budget of £25,597 in 2006/7. This budget is funded on a mulit-agency basis but is managed by DCC. Of the total adva budget DCC contributes approximately 30%

There are no Female perpatrators programmes within DCC area

Thanks

DCC acts as manager of the adva partnership (against domestic violence and abuse) pooled budget which in 2005/6 amounted to £687,031. Of this DCC contributed £313,700. This pooled budget covers a wide range of activity to deal with the issue of domestic violence and of it £57,200 was spent on funding DevonMALE which is a telephone and outreach support service for male DV victims. Devon was one of the first and remains one of the few local areas to have set up and funded such a service for male victims of DV.

For female victims we fund an outreach service covering the county which accounts for £280,000 of funding. Work with children in Women's Refuges is funded at £104, 325.

Thanks
