Dear Mr Mortimer

Thank you for your email of 17 October 2006 requesting information about “how many help and support groups are funded directly or indirectly by Croydon London Borough Council for (A) male and (B) female victims of domestic abuse and (c) how much each one received in the last full financial year”. We are dealing with your request under the terms of the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

Supporting People is a central government fund administered by the Council. It is not part of the Council’s general fund. In Croydon the delivery of domestic violence services for all residents who are victims is coordinated through the Family Justice Centre. This is a centre for all victims of domestic violence, family violence and their families and/or friends. The Centre does not separate or limit services based on gender. The number of organisations/statutory services provided through the centre currently stands at 34. Theses services do not receive a specific grant to be located at the centre. Further information about the Family Justice Centre is available at: http://www.croydon.gov.uk/socialcare/domesticviolence/familyjustice

Below is a table showing funds granted to the Women’s Aid between 2005/2006

In addition the Council provides a grant of £10,000 per annum to fund domestic violence related child contact provision services. Again this is not restricted according to gender therefore male and female perpetrators are able to make use of the centre to see their children and male and female victims are able to make use of the centre to allow safe contact.

If you have any queries about this response, please contact me. Please remember to quote the reference number above in any future communications.

Yours sincerely,

James Derby
