Dear Mr Mortimer

The Borough Council provides grants to Crewe Women’s Aid and has done for a number of years – currently in year 2 of a 3 year SLA - £6,000 p.a.

Also grant-aided Domestic Abuse Partnership £1,000 in 05/06, £2,000 in 06/07 and

Survive(an organisation which provides support for victims of abuse) grant £4,000 in 05/06, £1,000 in 06/07

Plus support for organisations like CAB/Samaritans/Relate

Through the Safer Communities Partnership £18,000 has been contributed to the development of Family Support Units with Cheshire Police. This funds the introduction of Independent Domestic Violence Advocates to support the work of the units in each police area in Cheshire. This is a county wide approach supported by all Crime Reduction Partnerships and co-ordinated by Cheshire Domestic Abuse Partnership. This also supports the introduction of Multi Agency Risk Assessment Conferencing provide a co-ordinated approach to tackling offenders and protecting victims, based on proven best practice pioneered in Cardiff

Of the contributions above only Women’s Aid is specifically for women victims of domestic abuse; the other organisations deal with all groups.

The Borough Council welcomes applications from organisations which have a presence in the area and are considered on a standard scoring system to ensure fair allocation.

Regards

Carol Jones (for Freedom of Information Officer)
