Dear Mr Wiffen

I write in connection with your email dated December 24, 2006, which was received by this office on December 27, 2006 requesting the following information: The number of (A) Male (B) Female Perpetrators of Domestic Violence were (C) Arrested and (D) Convicted of each offence last year.

We are unable to provide the arrest data as requested above. The Devon and Cornwall Constabulary custody database does not flag Domestic Violence incidents. We have a database specifically for Domestic Violence arrests, but the sex of the offender is not recorded in it.

The following information is for 1 January 1006 to 31 December 2006.

Domestic Violence incidents
Total: 5345

Domestic Violence crime offenders
Female 551
Male 2637

Domestic Violence crime offenders convicted
Female 79
Male 999

Yours sincerely

Cornwall County Council does not currently run, manage or fund perpetrator programmes for either male or female perpetrators of domestic violence. However, within the geographic county of Cornwall there are two programmes:-

The Domestic Abuse Programme run by the Probation Service. For further information in respect of this programme, please contact Sharon Wood at the Probation service on 01872 261297 sharon.wood@devonandcornwall.probation.gsi.gov.uk

Programmes run and managed within the voluntary sector – the Men and Relationships programme (MaRs), which is a company limited by guarantee. The project office is at 12 Walsingham Place, Truro. 01872 262918

I would recommend you contact both projects direct for information in respect of how they deal with female perpetrators.

Yours faithfully,

Cornwall County Council is a partner in the Cornwall Community Safety Partnership and is the accountable body for the allocating and monitoring of funding through the Cornwall Local Area Agreement.

I can advise you that in 2006/7 the Cornwall Community Safety Partnership has allocated the following funding in respect of domestic violence:-

£4,000 each to Truro, St. Austell and West Cornwall Women's refuges

£40,000 to fund the post of DV Co-ordinator for the County which includes both male and female abuse.

£138,800 for 6 Advocacy workers (women)

£21,000 for 1 Advocacy worker (male)

The Supporting People Unit of Adult Social Care have an annual spend of around £350,000 which goes to run women’s refuges.

Yours faithfully,
