Dear David,

At present, we do not fund any groups which support only male victims of domestic abuse. However, we do fund groups and organisations which support both male and female victims, and which seek to challenge public perceptions of domestic violence, and increase reporting, as well as funding Cambridge women's aid, who work with women and children only, largely through a refuge which serves a wider geographical area than the city itself.

We also provide funding to a number of voluntary agencies who work with victims of domestic abuse as part of their work. This includes hostels, a homelessness daycentre, the Citizens Advice Bureau and the Cambridge Independent Advice Centre.

I give you details below of funding this year and last. In general, funding to groups is guaranteed only for one year at a time, however there are projects which we have supported over a longer period of time and we are working towards three year funding where possible. Some groups receive funding from the Crime and disorder reduction partnership, and this is indicated as CDRP below.

2006/7 funding:
1. Funding for a sanctuary project - providing physical safety measures within the home, open to any victims, male or female:
Council funding: £5000; CDRP funding: £5000

2. Council funding for: Contribution to a County-wide post Domestic Violence Co-ordinator £6,000.00

3. CDRP funding for Domestic Violence Advocacy Service Contribution £36,000.00

4. CDRP funding for Training and Awareness Day for frontline practitioners £2,500.00

5. Funding from the Council to Cambridge Womens Aid (women & children only; refuge and outreach services) : £36 940

In 2005/6, we funded projects 2,3,4,5 above as these are ongoing projects.

The sanctuary project is new this year, but we expect to continue to support it in future. In 2005/6 the CDRP supported similar work with £8300 for alarms fir victims of domestic abuse and £1599.37 improvements to security at temporary housing which is sometimes used for homeless victims.

In 2005/6 the CDRP also supported a specific campaign about domestic abuse with the following amounts:
Domestic Abuse Directory of Services Cambridge City £1421
Bus Campaign £5,789.00
Poster Campaign £322.76
Bus Ticket Campaign £2,137.81

Yours,
