Subject: Official request for information by Men's Aid
Dear Mr Mortimer
Thank you for
contacting Buckinghamshire County Council.
Your request for
information (included below) has now been considered and the information
you have requested is as follows:
Children &
Families, Social Care (now known as Children's Services), have funded:
- Aylesbury and
Wycombe Women's Aid, both receiving £25,200 each for 06/07.
- We have also
put £6,000 in funding for a pilot play therapy group for children
in the community who have witnessed or experienced domestic violence
and support for their parents. This is being run through Aylesbury
Women's Aid and another voluntary organisation called the Open Toy
Box. The £6,000 was from 05/06 financial year, but £6,000
is also available to run a second pilot in 06/07. The hope is to expand
these groups throughout Buckinghamshire in the near future.
Mothers attending
this group are being supported by Women's Aid Outreach workers, but
the budget covered the eventuality that fathers may attend the group
and would also be supported by relevant provision within Buckinghamshire.
- We have also
put £4,000 into a perpetrators programme.
- We funded Father's
Direct to deliver training to practitioners on how to better engage
with dads, as well as training for senior management. Evaluation of
the effectiveness of this training will define what future funding
is required. We are working on how better to engage with dads around
all issues, including domestic violence.
- We also hope
to carry out a whole service review (within Social Care) around Domestic
Violence, highlighting the needs of our local community - which will
include fathers, mothers and children. It should also be noted that
our social work teams work with families on a daily basis where domestic
violence may be a major issue.
If you have any
queries or concerns then please contact me.
Regards
Neil Doling
