I am writing in response to your e-mail sent on 27th July 2006 sent to neighbourhood and housing customer services, requesting information regarding how many help and support groups Bristol city council funds for (A) male and (B) Female victims of domestic abuse and their children and (C)how much each one receives pa.

Unfortunately, I am not able to give you all the specific details at this moment of what Bristol City Council funds directly and indirectly partly due to the complexities around funding of domestic abuse funding in that it involves many other services as well as support/help groups. This is also due to it being the high level of annual leave over the summer months but we felt it necessary that we contact you to give you some information never the less.

However, what I can tell you is, first of all it is worth noting that Bristol City Council offers services to all those who require them, related to domestic abuse this includes housing and social services as well as many other groups within the council who provide direct or indriectly support the victims of domestic abuse. Therefore all satitary service offer to both men and women.

Second, in Bristol as far as I am aware at this time there are three specialist domestic abuse organisations offering domestic abuse services, two out of the three both WISH (contact details below) and Knowle West Health Association (contact details below) offer services including outreach services to men and women. The Third is Nextlink/Missing link (details below) is a refuge based organisation and therefore is women and children only. As well as these almost all other service in the city offers support to both men and women and their children.

In relation to funding I can tell you that Bristol City Council gives Nextlink/Missing link at a service level agreement around £85,000.00, sorry I cant give you a more exact figure and there is addition housing funding but as I mentioned earlier the service offered are many and complex. Also we do give money to Knowle West Health Association the sum of I am not aware of at this time and do not give funding to the WISH project.

I hope this answers your question but if still require more specific information you can contact Jan Youngs who is the Womens equalities officer on 0117-92-23786 or email her at jan_youngs@bristol-city.gov.uk

Hope this is helpful,

Yours sincerely,

Tom Trevithick,
