Dear Sir
Freedom of Information
Request
I refer to the
above matter and to your e-mail dated 27 June 2006 in which you requested
to know;
How many help
and support groups the Council funds directly or indirectly for
(A) male and
(B) female victims
of domestic violence and their children and
(C) how much each
one receives per annum.
I can advise that
Ards Borough Council has not funded any support groups either directly
or indirectly on an annual basis. However Ards Community Safety Partnership
together with North Down Community Safety Partnership made funding
available for a play, aimed at raising awareness of Domestic Violence
in June 2005 as part of the Community Safety Awareness Week. North
Down and Ards Domestic Violence Forum organised the event.
It is important
to emphasise that Councils in Northern Ireland do not have responsibility
for social services.
The Council has
not received any applications for funding from groups representing
either male or female victims of domestic abuse.
I would like to
advise you that if you are not happy with the way your request has
been dealt with, an internal review can be sought through the office
of the Chief Executive. If you are still dissatisfied following the
internal review you can ask the Information Commissioner’s Office
to review the Council’s decision.
Yours faithfully
Mary Higgins
