Dear Mr Mortimer

Thank you for your e-mail dated 27 June requesting information regarding funding for victims of domestic violence.

Antrim Borough Community Safety Partnership conducted a community safety audit in 2005. The findings of this audit indicated that domestic violence was a high priority issues within the Borough of Antrim. In carrying out this audit, it was recognised that domestic violence is a crime that is under reported. However, the data collated indicated that, in Antrim Borough, women and children are most likely to be victims of domestic violence.

In Northern Ireland, Women’s Aid is the primary group that raises awareness about domestic violence and offers support to female victims. Antrim Borough Community Safety Partnership works closely with the regional Women’s Aid office. In addition, the Partnership works closely with PSNI and Victim Support to tackle domestic violence issues for all victims in Antrim Borough.

Antrim Borough Community Safety Partnership provided Women’s Aid funding in the sum of £6,000 in 2005 / 2006. During the period 2006 to 2008 the Partnership has allocated £5,000 funding per year to Women’s Aid.

As local statistics indicate that domestic violence is an issue principally affecting local women and children Antrim Borough Community Safety Partnership has provided funding to the organisation best placed to assist in tackling this problem.

Antrim Borough Community Safety Partnership is committed to working closely with all organisations and agencies that will assist in dealing with domestic violence and will continue to support projects that will reduce this crime.

Should you wish to discuss this matter further please do not hesitate to contact me.

Yours sincerely
